The Buy Yourself Flowers Project is introducing Petal Pages: guided journals designed to support young people as they explore their mental health in a clear, gentle, and empowering way. These journals will be used in our workshops, giving students a space to reflect on their emotions, the people who matter most to them, and the experiences that shape who they are. Each page includes simple prompts that make it easier to express thoughts that are often difficult to put into words.
On the back, every Petal Pages journal features a Parent Awareness Page, offering a short, accessible overview of what was covered in the session. It gives parents or guardians practical guidance on how to understand and support their child’s emotional wellbeing, helping to open up conversations at home and strengthen the connection between young people and their families.
The purpose of Petal Pages is simple: to help young people understand themselves better, and to help the adults in their lives understand them too. Through reflection, guidance, and thoughtful conversations, these journals aim to make mental health support more approachable — both inside and outside our workshops.

What’s Inside the BYF Mental Health Toolkit
Each toolkit includes thoughtfully selected items designed to help teens feel grounded, confident, and supported:
- Welcome Page:
A gentle introduction reminding students that this is their space to explore feelings, express themselves, and grow at their own pace. - “People Who Help Me Feel Safe” Page:
A writing-and-reflection page where students identify supportive people in their lives and note small things they can begin doing independently to build confidence. - “What’s Going On Inside Me?” Page:
Guided prompts that help students recognise patterns, describe emotions, and practise expressing themselves with kindness and honesty. - Support Scripts:
Short, ready-to-use grounding statements for moments of stress, unkindness from others, loneliness, or overwhelm. These scripts teach emotional regulation in real-life situations. - Calm-Down Menu:
A curated list of simple, evidence-based techniques for the body, mind, and thoughts — including breathing exercises, grounding ideas, and self-talk phrases. - “My Day in a Bouquet” Journal Page:
A daily 4-step journaling system (Stems, Leaves, Flowers, Hopes) that encourages students to reflect on their day, identify emotions, acknowledge strengths, and set gentle intentions for tomorrow. - Parent Awareness Page:
A short guide on the back of the journal that helps parents understand what their child learned in the workshop, along with simple ways to continue supportive conversations at home.
